Just got back from Writer’s Group. No rant tonight; I was pleased. The core group was there and insightful comments flew to and fro.
Tissue came out again, although not for my piece. I guess I won’t hold that against the author…especially since she only got one tissue.
One member sold his comic script. We all had fun reading his first spec pages aloud last time and got to read more tonight. It’s exciting seeing the process from draft to accepted piece and (hopefully soon) to completed piece.
We read the comic script in script style (rather than one person read the prose, each character got a different reader) and people were fighting over parts. The shining moment of reading might have been when the British character was read with an accent that vacillated from Romanian to Polish. We all teased the reader and demanded the next installment from the author…a very laid back and happy group meeting all around (even with the afore mentions tissue).
A section of Julia was also read. It went over well. I enjoyed hearing the back and forth about who the mystery man was. They picked up on my clues, so that’s a relief…not too dense or obscure. It was a little upsetting to hear some of the gaffs: used Julia’s name way too much…on one page you would have thought they hadn’t invented pronouns yet.
