It was a new session at writer’s group last night which means new people galore showed up. I was a new person once, too. I know it’s overwhelming and a little scary. I remember being wary of giving my opinion since I didn’t know the people, the group dynamic, how lightly one had to tread with criticism, or if they actually critiqued seriously. But maybe that’s just me. One of the newbies asked to read someone else’s piece aloud (as is our practice) “because I’m falling asleep.” Ouch. The request was made right after my piece was critiqued. Double ouch. Not that I’m going to hold that against her. Much.
